Who makes roofing sold in Colorado

A handful of companies make most of the shingles, tile and metal on Colorado roofs. Here's who they are, who owns them, which products carry a Class 4 rating, and how their warranties work.

Updated October 30, 2026

Colorado Roof Guide has no business relationship with any company on this page, as of October 2026. We list them for reference only.

Your roofer buys materials through a distributor, but the manufacturer is the one that sets the installation rules and stands behind the product warranty. This page covers the makers you're most likely to see on a Colorado quote, and which of their products carry a Class 4 impact rating.

Class 4 means a product passed the UL 2218 test, in which a 2 inch steel ball is dropped on it. It's the highest class in that test. FM 4473 is a different test using ice balls. Both are lab ratings, not hail guarantees. Our Class 4 guide explains the difference.

Asphalt shingle makers

GAF

GAF traces its roots to the Standard Paint Company, founded in 1886 in Bound Brook, New Jersey. It's now part of Standard Industries. Its Class 4 lines include Timberline AS II, Timberline UHDZ and Grand Sequoia AS, plus matching ridge caps. Timberline HDZ is Class 3.

Owens Corning

Owens Corning was incorporated in 1938 as a spin-off of Owens-Illinois and Corning Glass, and is based in Toledo, Ohio. Its Class 4 shingles are TruDefinition Duration FLEX, an SBS-modified shingle, and Duration STORM. A third-party facility listing shows an Owens Corning shingle plant on Fox Street in Denver, which Colorado Public Radio also covered in 2010.

CertainTeed

CertainTeed began in 1904 as the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in East St. Louis. It has been wholly owned by France's Saint-Gobain since 1988. Its Class 4 shingles include Landmark ClimateFlex and Belmont IR; standard Belmont is Class 3.

IKO

IKO was founded in 1951 in Calgary by Isidore Koschitzky and is still family-owned, with 35 plants in six countries. Its Nordic shingle is rated Class 4 under FM 4473, not UL 2218, according to its data sheet. Dynasty and Cambridge are Class 3. IKO also owns DECRA.

TAMKO

TAMKO was founded in 1944 in Joplin, Missouri, by E.L. and Mary Ethel Craig and is privately held by the founding family. StormFighter FLEX comes in Class 3 and Class 4 versions, so check which one a quote lists. StormFighter IR is Class 4.

Atlas Roofing

Atlas began in 1982 with one plant in Meridian, Mississippi, and is based in Atlanta. Its Class 4 products include StormMaster Shake and Pinnacle Impact.

Malarkey

Malarkey was founded in 1956 as a family business in Portland, Oregon. Holcim bought it in March 2022, and it became part of Amrize when Holcim spun off its North American business in June 2025. Vista is Class 4; Highlander NEX is Class 3.

Tile, metal and composite makers

DaVinci Roofscapes

DaVinci makes composite shake and slate. It was founded in 1999 in Lenexa, Kansas, bought by Royal Building Products in 2019, and is now part of Westlake Royal Building Products. A QAI listing shows UL 2218 Class 4 for its Shake, Slate, Select Shake, Province Slate and several other lines. See synthetic roofing.

Westlake Royal Roofing (concrete tile)

Westlake bought Boral's North American building products business, including concrete roof tile, in October 2021. A re-engineered Boral concrete tile was reported as Class 4 for hail up to 2 inches, but we didn't verify current product names. A third-party listing shows a concrete tile plant in Henderson, Colorado. See tile roofs.

DECRA

DECRA has made stone-coated steel roofing since 1957. IKO bought it in 2018 as part of Fletcher Building's Roof Tile Group, and it's now branded DECRA by IKO. Its spec sheet lists UL 2218 Class 4. See metal roofs.

Brava Roof Tile

Brava makes composite tile and was founded in 2008. It's manufactured in Washington, Iowa, and a QAI report lists it as UL 2218 Class 4.

F-Wave

F-Wave, based in Burleson, Texas, makes synthetic REVIA XTM shingles in slate, shake and blended styles. A Florida product approval report lists them as Class 4 under both UL 2218 and FM 4473.

How manufacturer warranties work

Most makers offer two kinds of warranty. Which one you get depends heavily on who installs the roof.

Standard warranty

The basic warranty covers manufacturing defects in the product. GAF's standard shingle and accessory warranty doesn't require any particular contractor. It typically doesn't cover installation mistakes.

Enhanced or system warranties

These step up coverage when a certified contractor installs a full system of the maker's parts.

  • GAF: System Plus requires a GAF Certified, Certified Plus or Master Elite installer. Silver Pledge requires Certified Plus or Master Elite and adds 10 to 15 years of workmanship coverage. Golden Pledge requires Master Elite and adds up to 25 to 30 years of non-prorated workmanship coverage, depending on the shingle. All require a minimum number of GAF accessories.
  • Owens Corning: System Protection must be installed by an Owens Corning Preferred or Platinum contractor and registered within 60 days. It requires OC shingles, hip and ridge, and products from two of four OC accessory categories. Workmanship by non-certified installers and non-OC parts such as flashing and pipe boots are excluded.

If a quote promises an enhanced warranty, ask for the contractor's certification level and confirm who registers it. Our hiring guide covers what to check.

Class 4 is not a hail warranty. GAF states that its Class 4 Timberline AS II is not warranted to withstand hail damage. A few products do include stated hail coverage, such as DECRA's warranty, so read the actual document rather than relying on the rating.

Common questions

Does a Class 4 shingle come with a hail warranty?

Not necessarily. Class 4 is a lab rating, and GAF says its Class 4 Timberline AS II is not warranted against hail damage. A few products, like DECRA stone-coated steel, include stated hail coverage, so read the actual warranty.

Is any roofing made in Colorado?

Third-party facility listings show an Owens Corning shingle plant in Denver and a Westlake Royal concrete tile plant in Henderson. We didn't find corporate confirmation of the Denver plant, and we didn't verify Colorado plants for other makers.

What's the difference between a standard and an enhanced shingle warranty?

The standard warranty covers manufacturing defects and doesn't depend on who installs the roof. Enhanced or system warranties usually require a manufacturer-certified contractor and the maker's accessories, and may add workmanship coverage.

Which shingle brand is best for hail?

No brand is hail-proof. In IBHS's November 2025 ratings of 24 impact-resistant shingles, most rated Good and none rated Excellent. See Class 4 impact-resistant roofing for how to compare.
